The Boys & Girls Clubs of Hutchinson will have 14 AmeriCorps members who will provide
social-emotional learning (SEL) support and academic support to students in the Boys & Girls Clubs of
Hutchinson sites are located at Avenue A School and the Shadduck Park Community Center.
The AmeriCorps members will be responsible for improving school attendance and/or
improved academic performance.

Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence

 

 

Program Focus: Education

 

The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence engages AmeriCorps Members who will serve directly with youth to provide academic and social/emotional interventions at locations across Kansas.

The Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan engages AmeriCorps members who will provide academic, social, and emotional interventions to BGC students performing below the standard in Manhattan and Wamego public schools.

The Center for Supportive Communities engages AmeriCorps members who will serve as mentors and interventionists for elementary, middle, and high school students attending any public school in the Kansas counties of Douglas and Wyandotte.

USD 260 engages AmeriCorps members to tutor students in math, reading, and kindergarten readiness in the Derby Public Schools. Members serve their community by increasing student academic achievement and expanding the availability of early childhood education.

The Fort Hays State University READ Western Kansas AmeriCorps program proposes to have 12
AmeriCorps members who will train reading partners in Western Kansas. At the end of the first
program year, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for 225 reading partners who feel more
proficient with structured literacy interventions.

The Wichita State University "Reading Excellence and Academic Development (READ) AmeriCorps
program" proposes to have 15 AmeriCorps members who will implement structured literacy practices
grounded in the Science of Reading to address foundational literacy gaps among K-5 students at three target schools in Wichita, Kansas, specifically in zip code 67214.
